Xsens is a Dutch development studio; its motion-capture technology MVN – Inertial Motion Capture (InMoCa) enables motion to be captured through sensors on the MoCap suit without cameras. The company supplies the MVN Studio software for this purpose.
In contrast to the traditional optical MoCap process, the sensor-based MVN technology does not require a studio, and movements can be recorded anytime and anywhere and transferred directly, for example to a laptop.
Edit One expects the integration of InMoCa technology to deliver more accurate capture performance in significantly less time. The system is currently a decisive part of the Edit One pipeline. According to DP author Arndt von Koenigsmarck, disadvantages of InMoCa technology, alongside the hefty prices, are that the sensors do not provide exact data about position in space, because everything works via the angle and relative position of the sensors in relation to the calibration. The company provided no information about how Edit One handles the disadvantages of the process, or whether it is sufficient within a certain framework for pure previsualisations.
