The problems with the Final Cut Pro X version are well known: no more features for the professional sector, but rather hobby options. With update 10.0.8, Apple is now trying once again to catch up with the competition.
New features in the update include support for the Sony XAVC codec of the F5 and F55 up to 4K resolution. According to Apple, the new display option can show the ProRes Log C format from Arri Alexa cameras with standard Rec. 709 colour and contrast levels, without requiring an effect to be rendered and while retaining full access to the complete dynamic range of Log C for colour grading and compositing. After editing, the Log C files can then be exported as XML files and taken into another editing program for finishing.
According to Apple, the update also expands Final Cut Pro X with multichannel audio editing and a streamlined share option for the iPad or Apple TV. A new single-window interface is also intended to add unified import, while a second viewer window enables direct clip comparison. Further features include Red camera support, flexible clip connections and the ability to transfer attributes to several clips using copy and paste.
