As always, Planetside Software relied on close collaboration with VFX vendors on major film projects that have to contend with tight deadlines. One of the new features concerns a Linux render node, making integration into existing Linux render farms possible for the first time.

The feature highlights in detail:

  • Comprehensive layer and render-element output
  • Improved 3D preview
  • A new, fast and highly detailed global-illumination mode
  • Improved population control, including per-instance editing and colour variations
  • Support for FBX and other standard data-exchange formats
  • Improved performance for localised cloud rendering
  • Object mesh deformation
  • Content library for good organisation and quick access to scenes, objects and textures
  • Improved DEM format and georeferenced support
  • New spherical camera
  • Depth-of-field blur
  • Linux render node

Terragen 3 builds on the technology of Terragen 2, which has now been used in more than 20 feature films, currently including "Man of Steel".

Planetside Software has scheduled the release for July. For the release, the company is even giving away five licences under the "Get Updates + Enter to Win" section at the very top of www.terragen3.com. The price has not yet been announced.
