According to Sony, the PMW-300 camcorder is equipped with a 1/2" 3CMOS sensor and offers Full HD resolution in MPEG HD422 format at 50 Mb/s. The camera is intended to deliver good images even in poor lighting conditions and to suit fast-moving subjects. It has the same EX-mount interchangeable-lens system as the PMW-EX3 and is therefore compatible with numerous 1/2” and 2/3” lenses.
Outputs include HD-SD/SDI and HDMI, while timecode and genlock interfaces are intended to allow users to synchronise the camcorder with other cameras or integrate it into a 3D configuration.
Because of its all-round capabilities, the camera is intended to be particularly suitable for broadcast use and corporate events, in other words all production environments where flexibility and adaptability are required. A version with a 16x zoom lens is also said to be under development and due to come to market later this year.
