A great many science-fiction and historical series are among this year’s nominees. VFX company Pixomondo is nominated in the "Outstanding Special Visual Effects" category for its work on the third season of "Game of Thrones", and in the "Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Supporting Role" category for the historical series "Da Vinci’s Demons".

Competitors for an Emmy Award for best visual effects include Zoic Studios with the effects for "Falling Skies", as well as the series "Defiance", "Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome", "Hemlock Grove" and "Last Resort".

Also nominated in the "Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Supporting Role" category are the series "Banshee", "Boardwalk Empire", "The Borgias", "Revolutions" and "Vikings".
