Autodesk’s new game-developer tool is—of course—based on Maya. The affordable subscription pricing model is intended to attract indie game developers to use the tool for game development.

Features of Maya LT 2014 include support for all Maya 3D modeling tools, including NURBS and subdivision surfaces. Maya’s Hypershade Surface Editor is included, as is Shader FX for creating HLSL and CGFX shaders.

Other features include the ability to export in FBX format with up to 25,000 polygons per scene and import support for .ma, .mb, .mlt, OBJ and FBX 3D formats. Textures can be imported in BMP, PNG, DDS, EXR, TGA and TIFF formats. Also: Skeleton Generator, Autdesk HumanIK Inverse Kinematics, DX11 Viewport Previews with DX11 Shading, as well as Full Lighting and Global Illumination.

According to Autodesk, Maya LT 2014 will be available soon and cost 795 dollars. A free trial version is also available on the Autodesk website. In the upcoming DP issue 07:13, which appears in time for the animago CONFERENCE on October 23, we will introduce Maya LT 2014 in greater detail.
