Autodesk FormIt is intended to be particularly suitable as a sketching tool for architects and designers. With many features, buildings can be modeled, different types of objects drawn and shown on the tablet or other mobile devices.
The iOS version appeared last year, and now Autodesk has followed up for Android. Thanks to the app, users have access to the 3D models from anywhere; they are stored online in Autodesk 360 Cloud Services—a free user account is required for this. There they can also be shared with other users.
The app’s user interface is said to be clear, and models can be rotated easily. In the upper bar there is a gallery with predefined geometric figures that can be integrated into the 3D environment by drag and drop. The FormIt tools can also be used to create custom shape designs.
In addition, FormIt users have access to website information and, according to Autodesk, can import satellite images. The Shadow Study Tool can be used to test the effects of the sun on the building scene. The app requires Android operating system 4.0 or later
Autodesk’s FormIt Android app is available free of charge from Google Play.
