What is there this time? From the producer side, Nico Hofmann will talk about the major international production "The Physician"—DP reported on the ambitious project in issues 1/2014 and 2/2014. Of course, "Frozen" cannot be left out, fresh from winning the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Oscar Contenders and Winners in the Lighting & Rendering Track
Mohit Kallianpur, Look and Lighting Supervisor at Walt Disney Animation Studios, explains the lighting methods used in the creation of "Frozen". Danny Nahmias, Technical Director at Pixar Animation Studius, focuses instead on efficient workflows in lighting and explains Pixar’s preview tool. The tool, which is based on the physically based lighting model from "Monsters University", works with GPU ray tracing. Olivier Maury, Principal R&D Engineer at ILM, presents the Plume tool, which simulates fire, smoke and explosions. Plume, which is designed to shorten the feedback loop, earned Maury an Oscar for technical achievement two weeks ago.
VFX Made in Germany: The Physician
Successful film producer, director and screenwriter Nico Hofmann brings Philipp Stölzl’s bestselling adaptation "The Physician" to FMX. Particular attention is paid to the production of major international projects in Germany. Pixomondo created the 11th-century Persian city of Isfahan, produced effects for various scenes at other locations and also contributed CG soldiers and armies.
