Both models belong to the ColorEdge product series and use a WideGamut IPS LCD in 16:9 format with 2,560 x 1,440 pixels that reproduces 99 percent of the Adobe RGB color space.
The ColorEdge CG277 model is equipped with an integrated measuring device for self-calibration that automatically performs exact calibration, profiling, and validation. The ColorEdge CX271 also houses an integrated self-correction measuring device that keeps the white point, brightness, and colors constant over the long term after the CX271 has been calibrated with an external measuring device.
Manufacturer Eizo particularly emphasizes the devices’ performance with dark tones. The shadows are intended to impress in dimly lit photography or postproduction studios. CG277 and CX271 have LED backlighting that is intended to consume 40 percent less power than fluorescent tubes at the same brightness. The lighting is controlled in fine increments; to combat image flicker, Eizo relies on pulse-width modulation at high frequencies.
For brightness and color uniformity across the display surface, the CG277 and CX271 use a special circuit, the Digital Uniformity Equalizer. It suppresses color differences to three Delta E or less and compensates for the effects that fluctuating ambient temperature can have on color temperature and brightness.
Eizo ColorNavigator calibration software is included with both screens. It is used to define the target values for brightness, gamma, and white point and to create the color-management profile. ColorNavigator has a scheduling function to activate self-calibration and self-correction on the CG277 and CX271. Additional functions such as emulating the color characteristics of smartphones, tablet PCs, and other devices, as well as profile validation and checking calibration, are also included in the feature set.
Specifically for video editing and postproduction, the ColorEdge CG277 has a 3D LUT (look-up table) that individually controls color reproduction with the help of a cubic RGB table. This gives the image on the monitor the exact film look and makes it appear during editing as the viewer would see it – according to the manufacturer. The CG277 is already preset with several color types or media standards: Rec709, EBU, SMPTE-C, and DCI. It also processes 4K x 2K signals and scales them to its native resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels.
The manufacturer provides a five-year warranty for both monitors. Eizo’s recommended retail price is 2,290 euros for the CG277, while the CX271 costs 1,439 euros. Both monitors are already available for slightly fewer euros, however, so a price comparison is worthwhile (for example at idealo.de).
