Above all, collaboration from different locations is now supposed to work better, so asset synchronisation – even across locations – now functions seamlessly. Global filters for quick applications have also been added and the company has revised the user interface once again.
Thanks to better pipeline integration, the API is now more robust, and the standalone publishing application can be used to publish assets from a host application quickly and easily. Further features include improved time-tracking tools as well as review and approval tools through which customers can communicate efficiently with production.
ftrack also wants to strengthen the integration of Thinkbox Software’s Deadline, Imagineer Systems’ Mocha and Cospective’s Cinesync in future. Furthermore, ftrack is working with The Mill to develop plug-ins for Nuke and Hiero, making it easier for the tools to work together.
For the further development of ftrack, the company worked closely with existing customers, including Cinesite and ZeroVFX, The Mill and MPC Commercials (both will be guests at this year’s animago CONFERENCE). ftrack was originally an in-house development by the Swedish VFX studio Fido (see also DP issue 02/12) in 2008, before being brought to market in 2011.
For those interested, there is a 30-day trial version; a licence costs 39 US dollars per month, and 49 US dollars is charged for each additional user. Anyone who commits directly for one year pays only 39 US dollars per user.
