The Arri Amira is particularly suitable for documentary filmmakers; pre-orders are rumoured to already be in the four-digit range. We have already reported on the camera’s features at this point.
According to Arri, the officially announced delivery date for the Amira was April, but most customers are still waiting for their model. Let us see how many updates later one finally becomes one of the happy Amira camera owners. Our Amira test model has not yet been made available to DP either, so we have not yet been able to convince ourselves of the device’s promised quality.
With the first update, the Arri Amira is able to record and output ProRes UHD internally at a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels at up to 60 frames per second. According to Arri, this feature was added in response to customer feedback. Which lucky few these were is not recorded. Anyone who is still unable to film with the real Amira is advised to practise with the Arri Amira Simulator.
