Simulating realistically behaving CG hair is always a major challenge. Gene Lin has published an interesting video on the animation of wet hair.

In his 2013 Siggraph paper, Gene Lin presented the problem that arises when modelling CG hair under the influence of particle-based fluids.

In each individual step, he observed the collision of the individual hair strands with fluid particles and animated each strand while taking into account the individual influencing factors such as buoyancy and the surface tension of the water. He also proposes a shader to credibly reproduce the appearance of wet hair.

Lara Croft’s hair also looked extremely good last year thanks to the TressFX technology developed by Confetti Inc. You can find the article in DP issue 06/13 and/or as a free PDF in the attachment.
