The new camera is expected to be available in shops from January 2015. Price: 4,350 euros (excluding VAT). From February 2015, the kit variants with EF-S 18-135 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM for 4,860 euros and with EF 24-105 mm f/4L IS USM for 4,860 euros are expected to be available (excluding VAT).
Features
According to Canon, an 8.3-megapixel Super 35 mm CMOS sensor and a Digic DV4 image processor have been installed, intended to improve image quality in terms of colour reproduction and dynamic range. The new extended ISO range of 320 to 102,400 is intended to enable very good footage in extreme low-light situations. The camera also has a new video system intended to further reduce moiré and aliasing artefacts.
According to the manufacturer, the EOS C100 Mark II works as standard with the innovative Canon Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology, which provides continuous and precise focusing and enables smooth focus transitions between individual subjects. The camera also supports Canon face-detection AF, which automatically detects faces and focuses on them or tracks focus. But: face-detection AF is available only with selected lenses.
The new camera offers recording in two different file formats. The dual-format function enables simultaneous recording of Full HD footage in MP4 (at up to 35 Mbps) and in AVCHD (at up to 28 Mbps) at up to 60 fps, each to one of the two memory cards.
Alternatively, recording can also take place in HD and SD in parallel on both SD memory cards. This allows a smaller volume of data to be transferred more quickly. Further features include slow-motion and time-lapse recording.
New to this model is integrated Wi-Fi. File transfer from the camera is simplified via FTP. With dual format, the footage can also be saved in SD resolution and then transferred quickly. The HD version remains unchanged. Integrated Wi-Fi enables browser-based control of the camera, for example via smartphone or tablet. Compatibility with the Canon RC-V100 remote control enables versatile camera positioning.
Work has also been done on the display. It can now rotate and swivel, making safe image composition possible even from a position in front of the camera. The new OLED display offers more contrast in bright ambient light. A microphone has also been integrated into the camera body.
As part of the EOS system, the EOS C100 Mark II is also compatible with the range of Canon EF and 4K Cinema lenses.
