CION is the new addition to AJA’s portfolio. The camera for 4K/UHD and 2K/HD productions was presented at this year’s IBC. The delivery date was originally planned for this summer (we reported).
The CION is intended to be light in weight, intuitive to operate and ergonomically built. The new model can record directly in Apple ProRes 4444 at up to 4K 30 fps, ProRes 422 at up to 4K 60 fps, or output AJA Raw at up to 4K 120 fps. The LAN remote-control functions display all features as well as live video feedback in any web browser.
Here is the overview of the technical specifications. You can see which camera accessories are available here. The camera costs 8,995 euros excluding VAT (dealer overview). Delivery is expected by the end of December.

Here is the teaser clip for the CION. The shoot lasted three days and took place in the first week of September 2014. The UHD footage (23.98 fps) at normal speed was recorded in-camera as ProRes 4444. The slow-motion footage was recorded as ProRes 422 at 59.94 fps. The files were saved in-camera as 23.98 fps.
