The Dolby cinemas are to be equipped with a Dolby Atmos sound system, the new multichannel surround-sound technology, the new Dolby Vision projection system, and a large curved screen. Thanks to high-frame-rate projection, the image display is intended to have a very high contrast range.
According to Dolby, the first Dolby Vision projection will be introduced in spring 2015 and the first correspondingly mastered film titles will be launched, so the first Dolby cinemas in Eidhoven (Netherlands) and Barcelona (Spain) will initially be equipped with 4K Christie projectors.
According to Dolby, there will also be special design elements, such as entrance areas whose content can be programmed to match the film being shown.
The first films intended to be created in Dolby Vision during postproduction are "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", "Tomorrowland", and Pixar’s "Inside Out".
