We are especially pleased, of course, about the nominations in the student category: Not only did animago winner "Wrapped" from the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg pick up a nomniation …

The Filmakademie received a second nomination with "Deep Dance". We will also present this project in a making-of in one of the next issues of DP.

The fourth nomination in the student category went to "Dragon Clan" by Yahui Fan and Sheng Xu.
Feature Film Nominations
The important nominations in the category "Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Photoreal/Live Action Feature Motion Picture" went to "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" (see also DP issue 06/14), "Guardians of the Galaxy" (see DP issue 07/14), "Interstellar", "Maleficent", "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies", and "X-Men: Days of Future Past" (see DP issue 05/14).
The category "Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Photoreal/Live Action Feature Motion Picture" includes many excellent, artistically ambitious films: Michael Keaton not only received a Golden Globe award for his leading role in "Birdman"; the film can also have high hopes for several Oscar trophies this year. And now Rodeo FX from Canada (see also DP issue 05/14 and DP issue 07/14) can hope for a VES Award for its outstanding work on the project. In the upcoming DP issue 02/15, VFX supervisor Ara Khanikian will explain to us exactly how the VFX were created.
Also nominated in this category are "Divergent", Wes Anderson’s "The Grand Budapest Hotel", "The Imitation Game" with Benedict Cumberbatch, and Angelina Jolie’s war drama "Unbroken".
Nominated Animated Films
In the animated-feature-film category, Disney’s "Big Hero 6" (we will have a making-of in DP issue 02/15), "How to Train Your Dragon 2", "Rio 2", "The Boxtrolls", and "The Lego Movie" (see DP issue 03/14) are ahead.
Broadcast Nominations
The séance scene from the Showtime series "Penny Dreadful" received two nominations at once, for best environment and best supporting VFX in a broadcast programme:
We are already very exicted about the second season of this excellent horror series; the first trailer was released yesterday:
