Panasonic announces that a free firmware upgrade for the AJ-PX270 is available for download. The upgrade is intended to enable the use of a new codec (AVC-Intra Class200), Full HD streaming, and the automatic transfer of content, as well as new recording formats. According to Panasonic, these new functions are intended above all to make production and news transmission easier for field teams.
According to the manufacturer, the new AVC-Intra Class200 codec (10-bit, 4:2:2, bitrate approximately 200 Mbps) enables nearly lossless recordings at twice the bitrate of AVC-Intra Class100. The streaming function, which enables output in Full HD during recording, also improves network functionality.
The upgrade also includes the “recording during upload” function. Recorded content is automatically transferred to FTP servers, allowing new content to be filmed and recorded at the same time.
According to the manufacturer, the firmware upgrade also supports a new iPad-based Remote Operation Panel (ROP) application, which makes it possible to wirelessly remote-control the PX270’s settings (such as image quality, zoom, focus, and recording start/stop) via iPad. The P2 ROP app will be available free of charge in the Apple App Store.
The upgrade also adds 1080/30p, 25p, 24p, and native 1080 24PsF HD-SDI output to the AJ-PX270’s existing recording formats. In addition, 720/30p, 25p, and 24p is now also possible, according to Panasonic, making production for the internet more efficient. The upgrade also activates the proxy editing function with a web browser.
The updates are available for download from the Panasonic Service Support server from today.
