The previously privately owned marketplace for royalty-free stock photos and media, Fotolia , now belongs to Adobe. Adobe had already announced its intention to purchase Fotolia in December 2014. With the acquisition, Adobe is further expanding the role of Creative Cloud as a platform on which creative professionals can buy and sell content and services and present their own creations to a worldwide audience.
As the next step, Adobe will integrate Fotolia’s offering into Adobe Creative Cloud. This will make it possible to access and purchase more than 35 million images and videos in Creative Cloud. Adobe expects this to simplify and accelerate its customers’ design process.
Adobe also plans to continue the Fotolia platform independently as a freely accessible stock photo service. Founded in 2004 and represented by offices in New York, Paris, and Berlin, Fotolia is currently active in 23 countries and has websites in 14 languages.
