According to Arri, these added options make the Amira an even more versatile production tool and better meet customer wishes and industry trends. With its flexible, reprogrammable system architecture, the Amira is continuously being expanded in its functionality – in a similar way to what Arri has been doing with the Alexa since 2010.
4K Resolution Through SUP 2.0
The 4K update will be released in March and will enable a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels at up to 60 frames per second in ProRes codecs up to ProRes 4444 – directly onto the camera’s internal CFast 2.0 cards. Further features of SUB 2.0 are ProRes 3.2K recordings, which offer compatibility with Alexa cameras equipped with SUP 11.0. In addition, Wi-Fi remote support, the option to monitor audio channels individually and additional lock functions are being added.
MPEG-2 Through SUP 3.0
Amira SUP 3.0 will not be released until mid-2015. This is intended to allow the camera to film MPEG-2 422P@HL at 50 Mbit per second in Material Exchange Format. The XDCAM-compatible MPEG-2 recording format is particularly useful in the broadcast industry for TV productions, as the cost-efficient format reduces the number of memory cards required on set as well as overall production costs.
To enable the Amira to be integrated even better into a TV production environment, Arri is also releasing a new audio accessory in the form of an extension for the rear of the camera body, which equips the camera with a slot for a portable audio tuner/receiver. Another feature of SUP 3.0 is a remote-control interface, support for 16 mm lenses, an interval function for time-lapse applications and generally improved user-friendliness.
