With Next, Cinemartin is bringing an external, portable recorder for 4K cameras to market that is intended to be capable of making recordings at up to 4K and in DCI-compliant resolutions at various frame rates and bit depths.
Three Different Next Versions
Cinemartin Next will be available in in three different versions: the S, P and G models. The S and P models, which are also available at lower prices, are capable of recording 4K footage at 8 or 10 bit and 4:2:2 at up to 30p. The G variant, on the other hand, can handle 4K resolution at 10 or 12 bit and 4:4:4 at up to 60 frames per second.

The Next recorder includes a 64-bit Intel computer with a 6.7-inch touchscreen display, 8 to 16 GB of RAM and an integrated SSD card with up to 1 TB. In addition, the recorder has 6G-SDIs and HDMI ports. The operating system will be Windows 8, so the device can easily be converted into a portable editing station.

New Pricing Model
According to Cinemartin, the price of Next is intended to be between 2,295 and 2,995 euros – depending on the selected range of functions. In addition, several entry-level models of the S recorder are intended to be offered, which can be configured with different software packages, capture inputs/outputs and, depending on the integrated SSD storage space and amount of RAM, for a price of 1,395, 1,695 or 1,895 euros. Although some features in the 2K and 3K recording range will therefore be missing, 4K recordings will still be supported, only with small extras compared to the other models.
Cinemartin chose this new pricing and offering model so that users can compare Next with other 4K recorders on the market, because although these are also available in the 2,000 to 2,500 price range, Next has a fully functional PC inside, with which production can be controlled and realised much better.
