Now we can reveal it: In 2014, it was very close for Cornelius Dämmrich’s CG still "Haze"; he almost took home the animago trophy.
The artist, whose favourite tool is Cinema 4D, explained to us in detail in an interview in DP issue 03/14 how his detail-loving CG kitchen was created. The PDF can be found in the attachment for download.
Dämmrich created the image "00:10 AM" with ZBrush, Cinema 4D and V-Ray. The work is inspired by the "Bulletin of Atomic Scientists", which illustrates the acute danger of a global nuclear war using an imaginary nuclear-war clock. In 2014, it already stands at five minutes to midnight, the metaphorical end of humanity. In the image, it has already happened; the clock reads 0:10. But a cat has survived!
The second image Dämmrich submitted to the animago AWARD alongside "Haze" was "Until the Light takes us", also created with Cinema 4D and V-Ray. It depicts a reinterpretation of Norse mythology. During Ragnarök, the wolves Hati and Skalli are said to devour the moon and the sun, thereby darkening the sky. The image was part of Dämmrich’s bachelor’s thesis and was rendered on a render farm at 62 megapixels.
