Anniversary Special at FMX 2015

ILM, “Toy Story” and “Hobbit” fans should definitely make a note of three program items at the 20th anniversary edition of FMX.

To celebrate FMX’s 20th birthday in fitting style, FMX 2015 presents four high-profile events in the conference program. Terrence Masson (Founder/CEO of Building Conversation) and Sebastian Sylwan (Visual Effects and Digital Media Technology Executive) curate and moderate FMX’s own anniversary event “20th Anniversary of FMX”: 20 experts and friends of FMX present their personal milestones from the past 20 years – ranging from film stills to technical innovations or software. The speakers include William Sargent (CEO, Framestore), David Sproxton (CEO, Aardman) and Thomas Zauner (Managing Director, Scanline).

Joe Letteri Looks Back on 20 Years of Weta Digital

In this context, Joe Lettri looks back on 20 years of Weta Digital. The VFX Supervisor can already call seven VES Awards his own. He reveals the common thread that characterizes all Weta projects, from the first “Lord of the Rings” instalment to the most recent “Planet of the Apes” sequel. FMX Celebrates 40 Years of ILM

That is indeed how long the exceptional California studio Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) has existed: 15 Oscars and 28 Technical Oscars speak for themselves. ILM Modelshop Supervisor Lorne Peterson, Senior VFX Supervisor John Knoll and VFX Supervisor Richard Bluff illuminate the company’s history from its beginnings in 1975 to the present day and present groundbreaking events that changed ILM.

20 Years of “Toy Story”

Christophe Hery invites three members of the original Toy Story team to a discussion: Oscar-winning William “Bill” Reeves and Eben Fiske Ostby, as well as Director and Designer Ralph Eggleston. In addition, they will examine Pixar’s work from Ed Catmulls’s pioneering projects in computer graphics to confectionery advertising and other feature films, and review the paradigm shift of recent years.
