Rise, founded in Berlin Kreuzberg in 2007, is familiar to many DP readers through our author and VFX Supervisor Rayk Schroeder. Over the years, the studio has worked on the biggest film franchises in the world, including “Guardians of the Galaxy”, “Harry Potter”, “Iron Man 3”, “Captain America – The Winter Soldier” and the “Borgia” TV series (Rayk Schroeder will give a talk about this at FMX on Tuesday at 10 am in the König Karl Hall), and much more.
Managing Director Sven Pannicke on the new office in Stuttgart: “The FMX conference is based in Stuttgart for good reason: Filmakademie Ludwigsburg and HdM are among the country’s best schools for digital arts students, and the city is already home to several very good VFX and animation providers. In addition, Baden-Württemberg film fund MFG is aware that the digital era of filmmaking is in full swing – and that you have to hold on tight if you do not want to be left behind.”
Rise has a large arsenal of internally developed software; in addition, the pipeline is based on The Foundry’s Nuke and Side FX’s Houdini. You can find more about Rise locations in Berlin, Cologne, Vienna and now Stuttgart, as well as the pipeline, in the current DP 03 : 2015.
Rise is currently working on a host of different films and TV series, although these are still classified as top secret. Current films whose effects were partly made by Rise include “Marvel’s The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron” (see also the upcoming issue of DP, interview with Trixter), Tom Tykwer’s “A Hologram for the King” and Guy Ritchie’s “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” (Rayk Schroeder will report more on both projects in upcoming issues of DP).
