Televisual.com magazine asked the various rental houses and studios which cameras were the most requested and most rented – the winner was the Canon C300, presumably because its price and performance are the most attractive. Sony clearly dominates the list, with the F55, F800, PMW-500 and PMW-200 in the top 10. None of them is at the absolute top, but the spread shows how great the influence is, and the FS7 was only just outside the top 10 because it is not yet available in all rental houses – incidentally, much like Arri’s Amira. What surprised us was that Blackmagic cameras were not represented at all – but perhaps next year.
The survey found that the three most requestedest cameras, in this order, are:
1) Arri Amira
2) Sony FS7 (Free PDF with the test: DP 15:02 Sony FS7)
3) Sony F55 (Free PDF with the test: DP 13: 06 Sony F55)
So here is the top list of the most rentedest (prices naturally in pounds because the English generally think “Euro” is stupid.)
- Canon C300 – £160 (Free PDF with the test: DP 12:06 C300)
- Arri Alexa – £595 (Free PDF with the shootout between Alexa, F3 and Epic: DP 12:01_Shootout)
- Sony F55 – £265 (Free PDF with the test: DP 13: 06 SonyF55)
- Arri Amira – £315
- Red Epic – £505
- Canon XF305 – £160
