The film was created for the ESA‘s Rosetta mission, in which Rosetta traveled 900 million kilometers to comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko with the Philae lander. Rosetta had been on its way since 2004, arrived in August 2014 and has orbited the comet ever since. The researchers hope to draw conclusions about the chemical and isotope composition of the early solar system.
The mission has already cost more than 1 billion euros so far; for this reason, ESA wanted to draw the public’s eye to the daring space undertaking and visualize the complex processes in an understandable way. Platige Image from Poland took on this challenge under ESA’s scientific guidance. ESA and Platige were rewarded this year with an animago AWARD in the “Best Visualization” category. Since then, our animago trophy has also stood at the Space Agency, photographed here on the “Ambition” film poster and kindly made available to us:
Aidan Gillen, known from “Game of Thrones,” and Aisling Franciosi from the BBC series “The Fall,” play the lead roles in “Ambition.” Here is the making-of for the extremely elaborate project, which was shot in Iceland:
As ESA Senior Scientific Advisor Mark McCaughrean says in the making-of clip: “We are a Space Agency that does not normally make films of this kind. That is why we had to cooperate with someone who had the vision and the abilities to be able to create something like this.” The director was Tomek Baginski of Platige, who has already realized extraordinary works such as “Paths of Hate.”
