Autodesk wants to pursue a similar plan for the Madrid company Solid Angle as it did for Shotgun: it is intended to remain a standalone provider. But Solid Angle nevertheless now belongs completely to Autodesk, while the Solid Angle brand will be retained, as will the autonomous sales channel with its associated team.

It is the first time that Autodesk owns a major render engine; with Mental Ray, the company only concluded a licensing deal. Arnold has so far supported Maya, Houdini, Cinema 4D, Katana and many other tools, but not yet 3ds Max. It can therefore be assumed that Autodesk will now work in this direction.

You can read the complete interview with Solid Angle founder Marcos Fajardo about the decision, why the company was sold and what will happen to Arnold after the acquisition here at fxguide.

If we have any further questions, we will simply approach Marcos Fajardo at FMX next week, because he will be giving various workshops there. And he will certainly also talk about the decision to sell Arnold and Solid Angle to Autodesk.
