Sneak Peek: DP 01 : 17

In DP issue 01 : 17, our focus will be on “Character Design and Creation” – one of many CG artists’ favourite subjects. DP will arrive with our subscribers on 16 December and appear at newsstands on 19 December, right on time for Christmas.

(All subjects subject to change)

Zacharias Reinhardt is a certified Blender trainer who uses the open-source tool in his company for commercial client projects such as 3D animations, TV and cinema commercials or corporate films, among other things. In DP 01 : 17, he will show how to scuplt a creature with Blender and which add-ons are helpful in the process. Since the artist will create a new 3D monster exclusively for this workshop, this is only one character example from his portfolio.

A CG monster also makes a cool appearance in “Face the Darkness”, a project currently nominated for an animago AWARD. The Filmakademie team will report on the shoot in Iceland with drones and the VR/AR filming solution Ncam, as well as the efficiently structured workflow with Cinema 4D, Octane and Houdini, among others.

In addition, we will have many more character-creation workshops, including on Cinema 4D and Modo. And DP author Rainer Duda will find the “Beauty in the Beast” by applying the grooming technique to create credible CG hair quickly – and much more.

Workshops & Making-ofs

We will test ZBrush Core from Pixologic and Calman 6 and explain how to write scripts via the Nuke GUI. We also spoke to Framestore about the development of the new interactive version of “Guitar Hero” and to MPC about the commercials they created over the last two years.
