The exhaust of a rocket engine is extremely bright. Therefore, even with the required small aperture setting, important parts of the engine were previously not visible in the images.
NASA’s High Dynamic Range Stereo X (HiDyRS-X) camera solves this problem. It extends the function of a high-speed camera so that it can generate HDR videos with multiple different exposures.
The special feature of the HiDyRS-X cam: the multiple exposures during the high-speed recording take place simultaneously with only one camera, and the different exposures occur at chip/pixel level.
