“bDiamond” – Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences
The “bDiamond” team will explain in careers issue 03 : 17 how the 3D animated-film project was created. On the subject of “blood diamonds,” the students produced an impressive freeze sequence in their final semester at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences.
The four-person team, consisting of animation and game artists, worked on the project for around 3.5 months; it was supported by two sound and music-production students. The three-dimensional still life was intended to evoke a luxury advertisement thematically, but then slowly shift to the subject of the civil war in Africa that was partially financed by diamonds.
Rendering was done with the GPU renderer Redshift; further programs used were Maya, ZBrush, Quixel Suite 2, Mari, Marvelous Designer, Nuke and Tortoise SVN.
Game Project “Sane” – Mainz University of Applied Sciences
“Sane” is a bachelor’s project from Mainz University of Applied Sciences. The ambitious third-person adventure game stands out above all through its elaborate environment design and the fantasy creatures in the wonderland created by main character Amelié.
For the elaborate game, whose pilot episode is due to appear soon, the team used Unreal Engine 4 as well as Maya, ZBrush, Marvelous Designer and Megascan. Intelligent materials created by the students in the engine enabled a particularly fast pipeline in designing the environments and charactere. The “Perception Neuron” motion-capture system made it possible to create fast placeholder animations for character locomotion and cutscenes.
“Sane” has an official website, a dev blog and a YouTube channel with various tutorials and WIP shots. And soon a making-of in the next DP!
