With the switch from Maya 2016 to 2017, many users had to do without their favorite renderer, Mental Ray. Since December 2016, that has been over. Nvidia’s Mental Ray plug-in not only brings the renderer back into the workflow, but also solves a few other little problems.

Everything the Mental Ray Plug-in Can Do

One particular advantage is that the plug-in makes backward compatibility with older Maya Mental Ray scenes possible. Nvidia also relies on faster rendering with GI Next on the GPU. Another new feature is an interactive viewport that makes lighting and look development easy. Anyone who wants to know more can find a detailed article in the next issue of Digital Production. Issue 04 : 17 appears on June 23. For those who are very quick, here is the plug-in download.
