Tree It from Evolved Software is a free tree generator with many automatic and manual adjustment options. We allowed ourselves some fun and, during the test run, looked to see whether something in the direction of the “Whomping Willow” from Harry Potter could also be generated.
Tree It Features
The tool enables trees to be created using a variety of functions – including joints and export options. Here is an overview of the features:
- Automatic generation are accessible via seeds and a Randomize function.
- Manual parameters for tree, trunk, branches, roots and leaves, beginning with adjustable quantity, segments and position through to distortion and joint offset.
- Auto-Mapping feature for textures with planar mapping.
- 3D view through Perspective, Top, Front and Side, including wind animation and light.
- Polygon count in the lower window area, as well as FPS display.
- Export formats FBX, OBJ, DBO and DirectX Object. In the test, export and import into DCC tools (Maya, Houdini, Cinema 4D) worked perfectly. Furthermore, a “Render to Texture” function can be used to create textures with alphas for leaves.
Since most settings are self-explanatory, the software does not actually need documentation, but anyone who still has questions can find answers in the forum. Our test to generate a whipping willow actually took only a few minutes (if that). When adjusting the manual parameters, we were able to regulate the necessary features via the trunk, roots and the thickness of the branches.

The tool can runs on Windows XP and higher and can be used for commercial purposes. You can find further information about that here.
