The ifs internationale filmschule köln and the Cologne Game Lab at TH Köln are offering a new part-time Master’s program in 3D Animation for Film & Games from autumn 2018.

Info hour: April 11, 5:30 p.m. at the ifs

The new part-time Master’s program in 3D Animation for Film & Games starts in September 2018. The first transmedia continuing-education Master’s program for 3D animation in the German-speaking region is jointly organized by the Cologne Game Lab at TH Köln and the ifs internationale filmschule köln.

At an info hour on April 11, 2018, at 5:30 p.m. at the ifs, the two professors responsible, Björn Bartholdy (Media Design department, co-director of the Cologne Game Lab) and Rolf Mütze (VFX & Animation department, ifs internationale filmschule köln), will present the new degree program to interested parties and address questions individually.

Essential content of the part-time course includes:

Projects: individual or collaborative work mentored by professors and instructors

Animation: Character Creation, Story & Performance, Immersive Animation (Virtual Reality / Augmented Reality)

Media & Game Studies: teaching media studies theories and models with a focus on media transformation processes of digitalization in art, research and society

History of animation: examination of the development of animation from its analogue roots to a computer-generated art form

Computer science: project-related knowledge in common programming languages and game engines

Through a strong practical focus, close links with industry and a wide-ranging media-theory portfolio, students are optimally prepared for these growing challenges. During their studies, they expand their methodological, theoretical and conceptual abilities – in order to help shape the constantly expanding field of work between linear and nonlinear productions in a forward-looking way.

As a postgraduate, artistic-academic continuing-education Master’s program, the course is aimed at committed media professionals from the fields of film, games, design, architecture or similar who have experience in the conception and production of 3D animations. Teaching is in English, as the degree program prepares students to work in international and interdisciplinary teams.
