Montreal animation studio E*D Films presents Scene Track! A completely free tool for Unity that can now be used to record realtime gameplay. Afterwards, the animation data can be conveniently exported to other DCC tools in FBX format (such as 3ds Max or Maya).
The exporter can also spit out rendered videos in MOV or MP4 format, as well as MIDI audio or individual images as JPEG or PNG. This also allows Unity to be used much better as an offline animation tool.
The idea arose from the simple thought that game engines are considerably more affordable than other programmes. Especially lately, Unity has also been catching up considerably in terms of performance and enables smaller filmmakers with possibly lower budgets to implement their innovative ideas.
Scene Track is available for Unity 2017+ on Windows and Mac OS X to anyone who creates a free account in E*D Films‘ online store. The free download link is then available there.
