Cinema 4D S22 is Maxon’s first subscription-only version, giving users early access to new workflow improvements. These include new automatic UV unwrapping and editing tools, improved selection and modelling features, licences for organisations, and viewport updates with support for Metal on macOS. For the pipeline, GLTF, GoZ for ZBrush, and support for node-based materials for FBX and Cineware have also been added.
New UV features
S22 brings new UV features to Cinema 4D: improved selection tools, visualisations, new packing algorithms to optimise resolution and more.
The new automatic UV unwrapping is based on “Ministry of Flat” (Quel Solaar) and allows the creation of simple UV maps with almost no distortion or overlap for further baking and texture-painting processes.
Modelling improvements
The modelling features include updates for the Extrude Generator, Loop and Ring Selection tools for modelling and UV workflows, the Bevel tool & deformer, Bridge, as well as a new “Untriangulate” tool. Attributes such as UVs, vertex maps and colours now also remain intact.
Material Nodes Export
It is now possible in Cinema 4D to export node-based materials within FBX and Cineware.
Pipeline update
In addition to the material export option, Maxon has expanded pipeline support with a GLTF exporter and new GoZ integration for a link between ZBrush and C4D:
Improved viewport
The new viewport now supports Apple Metal and offers an improved display of the 3D scene with filtering options and better performance with multiple instances:
