After three years of development, the open-source vector editor Inkscape reached version 1.0 for Linux, Windows and macOS.
Path and canvas tools
The release added live path effects including Dashed Stroke, Ellipse from Points, Corners and Offset. Canvas work gained mirror, rotation, X-ray and split-view modes, while guide controls added duplication, grid-to-page alignment and a path-length indicator.
Editing and export
The reorganised toolbox gained search. Object-alignment handles simplified positioning on the canvas, and PDF export could retain links and metadata. The release also covered mock-up workflows and SVG embedding.
Interface and performance
Custom themes, icons and fonts arrived alongside HiDPI support. Performance work particularly targeted objects with large node counts.
Availability
Inkscape 1.0 was offered free of charge for Linux, Windows and macOS. The project also published contribution guidance and detailed release notes. Test the current build and export path before introducing it into production.
