Digital Production author and motion designer Robert Hranitzky collaborated with illustrator DXTR on Act Now, a grid of 45 illustrated and animated tiles addressing deforestation, renewable energy, time and other social themes.

Illustration and animation workflow

The artists combined Adobe Stock material with Illustrator, Photoshop and After Effects. The short tutorial showed how the individual tiles moved from illustration into motion design while retaining a consistent visual system across the grid.

Modular composition

Treating each tile as a separate unit allowed the pair to vary subject matter and animation while assembling the pieces into one larger artwork.

Motion teams should test source licences, colour consistency, frame rates and handoff between illustration and animation applications before reusing the workflow.
