Materials and assets

Twinmotion 2020.2 significantly improved the appearance of water surfaces and car-paint materials. Epic Games also added ready-made trees, construction vehicles and aircraft models to the Unreal Engine-based visualisation application.

The software was originally developed by French visualisation studio KA-RA to give architects with limited 3D experience an accessible visualisation tool. Epic acquired Twinmotion in 2019 and subsequently moved it into a commercial release cycle.

Parametric interaction

Interactive Parametric Doors can snap and scale to wall openings, then open automatically when a character or scene camera approaches. Users can also connect objects manually to rotation or translation widgets, enabling straightforward actions such as opening and closing doors or windows.

The revised water system covers rivers, lakes and puddles on solid ground, while the updated car-paint materials aim for a more realistic finish. New content includes Smart Aircraft with adjustable colours and airline logos, plus 15 East Asian tree species, each supplied in four seasonal states.

Availability

Twinmotion was available for Windows and macOS. Epic’s release article and the archived release notes provide further detail. Validate imported assets, material conversion and interaction logic before production use.
