From 2020.2 to 2021

Howler 2021 is the latest release of the combined digital-painting, animation and video-processing application. It follows Howler 2020.2 by only two months, reflecting developer Dan Ritchie’s incremental release schedule. Digital Production covered the previous version in its original release report.

Brush and interface changes

Much of the update concentrates on workflow. Artists can create larger brushes, while airbrush and AA Pen sizes now use relative units instead of absolute pixel values. Custom brushes can also be rotated and flipped.

The interface has been adjusted for tablet use, and the application now supports multi-monitor configurations. The developer’s complete feature list records the remaining changes. Test the new brush behaviour and display layout before introducing the release into production.
