Houdini 18 Backport
SideFX is backporting features from the current major version of Houdini under development to the current version, Houdini 18.0. Thanks to the backport, users now have access to a new topology transfer system and support for fog in the OpenGL viewport. Support for randomised walk subsurface scattering with the Karma renderer is also available.
With Topo Transfer, the deformation of a source mesh can be organically adapted to the dimensions of a target mesh. This should make it easier to convert unprocessed scan data into geometries ready for animation.
The parade of features also includes a new Path Deform system. This allows geometries to be deformed along a path; the construction of a 3D text or an elongated object, such as a belt or necklace, can thus be realised.
The viewport has also been equipped with new features. These include a fog system with control options for the range of density, translucency and depth. The fog interacts with the scene lighting in real time.
