The Academy Software Foundation held Open Source Days on 4–5 August 2021, presenting updates on open-source projects used in visual effects, animation and image creation.
Across both days, the programme combined Foundation Project Update sessions, Friends of the Foundation sessions and community presentations.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences founded ASWF in 2018 after an industry survey found widespread reliance on open-source software, particularly among animation and VFX artists. The foundation’s mission was to improve the quality and quantity of open-source projects available to the motion-picture industry.
