Tangent Animation, which operated studios in Toronto and Winnipeg, ceased production in August 2021. Contemporary reporting said the shutdown affected around 400 employees and interrupted several projects associated with Netflix.

At the time, it was unclear whether or when the studio would resume operations. Reporting linked the closure to difficult production histories on the animated features Monkey King and High in the Clouds.

Tangent Animation’s credits included Next Gen and Ozzy. Work on the Netflix production Maya and the Three was reported to have been completed before production stopped, with release still expected later in 2021.
