In brief: Golaem released version 8 of its crowd-simulation software, adding Unreal Engine support and focusing on previs and layout workflows.
Real-time simulation: Golaem simulations could run in real time through Unreal Engine. Maya viewport improvements displayed a broader range of shading directly in the viewport for higher-quality crowd previs.
Golaem co-founder and product manager Nicolas Chaverou highlighted the Maya viewport changes for productions already using the software, citing The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous and My Little Pony: A New Generation.
Layout and physics: Version 8 restored trajectory-editing layers with mesh- or curve-based operation. NVIDIA APEX integration provided real-time cloth simulation for crowd characters.
Golaem documented the release on its Golaem 8 page. Digital Production also published a Golaem 7 feature in issue 06:2019.
