In brief: Reallusion announced Character Creator 4 for release in spring 2022.

Character support: Reallusion said version 4 would broaden the range of editable 3D characters and allow both human and creature models to be imported.

Animation: A new Spring Dynamics system was designed to add secondary motion to elements such as tails. The release was also planned with more than 140 facial blendshapes, with external editing in sculpting applications such as ZBrush.

Preview workflow: A revised preview and display system used preset motions to test rigs, facial animation, hair and clothing animation earlier in production.

Reallusion also planned to discontinue the free Character Creator edition supplied to iClone users and retire 3DXchange. Some 3DXchange functions were due to move into Character Creator 4 itself.

Reallusion published a Character Creator 4 feature overview.

A version comparison described differences between Character Creator 3 and 4. The article listed a new-user licence at roughly US$300 and noted that Character Creator 3.4 was the current release at publication.

Digital Production also covered Reallusion and Replica Studios’ AI-assisted iClone lip-sync plugin.
