Nuke Bridge and concurrent shots

Katana 5.0 connected look development and lighting sessions to Nuke through Nuke Bridge. Artists could stream results towards a final composite, with Katana changes updating the Nuke view close to real time.

Foresight extended the concurrent live-rendering workflow introduced in Katana 4.0. Teams could work from templates and inspect as many shots simultaneously as their pipeline resources could sustain, reducing dependence on a later daily review.

USD and material networks

The release added import and export of lighting information through USD. Network Material gained support for material macros and user parameters in shading groups, intended to make shader sections reusable across node graphs, projects and artists.

Gary Jones, Foundry’s Lighting Product Manager, described the release as a response to increasingly non-linear workflows.
Hydra render-delegate support and instance previews rounded out the release. Test the bridge, delegates and USD exchange against the current production stack before deployment.
