TL;DR: The CS3200X is not a cheaper CG3100X pretending to be a reference monitor. It is a very accurate 31.5-inch 4K production display for editors, compositors, designers, photographers and anyone else who needs dependable colour before final mastering. Our checks stayed comfortably below Delta E 2; the panel is uniform, hardware calibration remains, and USB-C, KVM, HDR presets, Sync Signal, and the included hood make it an unusually complete workstation monitor. At €1,779 official and currently from around €1,670, the main missing ingredient is an integrated calibration sensor. If you genuinely need that and the CG3100X’s finishing features, you probably already know why.
Another EIZO?
A few weeks ago we tested EIZO’s ColorEdge CG3100X, a monitor so irritatingly competent that most of the problems we found eventually turned out to be located somewhere upstream of the display.
It was also, according to some readers, expensive. This was not entirely unfair. The CG3100X has an official German price of €5,288. It is worth its money, but €5,288 remains €5,288 even when every pixel is behaving impeccably. So what happens if you want most of the EIZO experience without paying the colourist tax?
Enter the ColorEdge CS3200X.
It is the new 31.5-inch flagship of EIZO’s CS line, sitting below the more specialised CG monitors but retaining most of the ColorEdge fundamentals: wide gamut, hardware calibration, uniformity correction, production presets, HDR support and a generally reassuring absence of nonsense.

EIZO’s German catalogue puts the official price at €1,779 including VAT. Current Idealo listings, checked on 27 August 2026, range from €1,670 to €1,859. Germany has therefore already managed to discount a monitor that several shops do not actually have yet. Retail remains one of the stranger branches of quantum mechanics. We had one of the first European test units for two weeks—considerably less time than we spent with the lovely CG3100X.
A lot of screen
The CS3200X uses a 31.5-inch 16:9 wide-gamut IPS panel with a native resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. That means 140 ppi, an active image area of 697.3 x 392.2 mm, a specified maximum brightness of 350 cd/m² and a typical contrast ratio of 1300:1. EIZO quotes viewing angles of 178 degrees horizontally and vertically and a grey-to-grey response time of 14 ms.
It covers 99 per cent of Adobe RGB and 96 per cent of DCI-P3. A 16-bit LUT feeds a 10-bit output pipeline capable of displaying 1.07 billion colours from an internal palette of 278 trillion tones. The obligatory footnote applies: your graphics hardware, software and connection also need to support 10-bit output if you would actually like to see those 10 bits.
A few years ago, this specification at €1,779 would have sparked lengthy forum threads trying to figure out which vital organ had been quietly removed to hit the price. The answer here is: surprisingly few. Thirty-one and a half inches is also a very useful amount of desktop for Resolve, Premiere, After Effects, Fusion, Photoshop, 3D applications and any other software whose interface appears to have been designed during a land-grab dispute.





You have enough room for a meaningful image, scopes, controls, node graphs and timelines without everything becoming a collection of tiny grey rectangles. Compared directly with the 30.5-inch CG3100X, the difference sounds minor and looks considerably less minor. Those extra centimetres are visible.
For our desk, around 30 inches remains the sweet spot. If you sit close to the display or have a shallow desk, 31.5 inches can become a little much. If you have a standard editing desk and enjoy not having to choose between seeing your image and your interface, the extra space is excellent. Bigger is often better with monitors. We make no broader claims regarding that sentence.
The panel is still the important bit.
Our measurements put the CS3200X comfortably below Delta E 2 in the checks we performed. We measured with a Spyder and its newest software, and the Average was 0.76, which is so low and so precise that we’ll call it good and move on. We do not have a sufficiently complete set of raw measurement data from the short test period to publish a proper laboratory chart, so there will be no suspiciously precise decimal points invented for decorative purposes.
What matters is that we could not identify a colour error that became visually relevant during normal production work. For editing, compositing, motion graphics, design, image work and grading before final mastering, that changes the question from “Is this screen accurate enough?” to “Do I actually need the extra capabilities of a CG model?”


Wide gamut without drama
The CS3200X includes preset modes for Adobe RGB, sRGB, BT.709, Display P3, and DCI-P3, plus dedicated PQ DCI-P3 and HLG BT.2100 modes, a calibration mode, user mode, and Sync Signal. This makes it useful beyond video.
Photographers and pre-press users get Adobe RGB. Video people get BT.709 and DCI-P3. Apple-heavy workflows get Display P3. HDR work gets HLG and PQ. The useful part is not that anyone needs all of those simultaneously, but that the same display can move between different types of work without somebody having to explain why the monitor purchased for one department becomes vaguely inappropriate when a different file arrives. For a magazine, agency, small studio or one-person production operation, that flexibility is crucial. We all would like to do only one thing (Preferably the one we’re good at), but in 2026, too many of us have to wear multiple hats.

Calibration: bring your own sensor
This is one clear difference between the CS3200X and the CG3100X. The CS3200X does not have a built-in calibration sensor. Instead, hardware calibration is performed through ColorNavigator 7 using an external measurement device. EIZO offers its EX5 sensor, and you can also use supported third-party devices.
This remains real hardware calibration. ColorNavigator writes the correction into the monitor rather than relying on the computer’s graphics-card LUT to do the heavy lifting. You lose the ability of the CG3100X to wake up its own integrated sensor and recalibrate itself automatically, but you do not lose the underlying calibration system. ColorNavigator detected our set-up correctly on the first attempt and behaved itself. Software successfully doing the thing written on the box should not be noteworthy, yet here we are.
EIZO’s CS3200X support database currently lists ColorNavigator 7.2.8 and Quick Colour Match 2.2.18. Quick Colour Match is more relevant for photography and print. It simplifies screen-to-print matching in supported Canon and Epson workflows. For people whose usual final output ends in ProRes rather than cellulose, it is less central. Still useful, just probably not the button your editor will wear out first.

HDR, but physics remains employed
The CS3200X supports both HLG and PQ HDR transfer functions. That is useful. The other important number is 350 cd/m². That is the panel’s maximum brightness (we measured 362 cd/m², so a bit above, and super accurate numbers with small calibration tools are only verifying the ballpark). The monitor can therefore operate correctly inside HDR workflows, provide the appropriate HLG and PQ response, and let upstream departments work sensibly with HDR material. It does not become a 1,000-nit mastering display through the power of optimism.
For editorial, compositing, VFX, motion graphics, general post-production and preliminary grading, having the correct HDR pipeline on the workstation monitor is valuable. For final HDR mastering, use the reference display designed for it. That is not a failing of the CS3200X. That is why EIZO also makes considerably more expensive monitors.
Sync Signal: one less setting to forget
The CS3200X is the first CS-series model with EIZO’s Sync Signal function. When appropriate metadata arrives with the signal, the monitor can automatically adjust brightness, gamma and colour gamut to suit the incoming material. Moving between SDR and HDR or between supported colour spaces therefore requires fewer manual changes. This is the sort of automation we like – not because changing a monitor preset is particularly difficult, but because every manual setting in a production pipeline is another opportunity for somebody to forget that they changed it yesterday.
Not for esports
The operating range tops out at 60 Hz, with a specified vertical scanning range of 23 to 61 Hz. Response time is 14 ms grey-to-grey. So if your purchasing priorities are 144 Hz, 240 Hz, or whatever number is currently necessary to prove that missing the shot was definitely the monitor’s fault, please keep shopping. The CS3200X is not a gaming display. It is a working display. For film and video production, it supports the expected frame rates, including the usual 24, 25, 30, 50, and 60 Hz territory.
It can play games. It simply looks disappointed that you asked.
The hood is no longer reserved for the expensive seats
The CS3200X is the first model in the CS range to ship with a light-shielding hood as standard. It attaches magnetically and requires no small engineering degree to assemble. A proper grading suite should, of course, have controlled lighting.
So should all editors sleep eight hours, every production have sensible deadlines, and every Client deliver final copy before picture lock. Meanwhile, in the physical universe, many people work near windows.

Our room contains precisely the sort of environmental light a monitor would probably refuse in its rider. The hood works. It blocks a useful amount of light coming from above and the sides and makes the display more comfortable in rooms that are not perfect little colour laboratories. For an accessory consisting largely of black material around a rectangle, that is a respectable day’s work.
Reflections and walking around the monitor
The anti-glare coating is good. Side by side, we still slightly prefer the surface treatment of the CG3100X. The difference is small, and at no point did the CS3200X turn a dark shot into an impromptu self-portrait (Thank God – the last thing you want to see on any screen is your own face!). The specified viewing angle is 178 degrees horizontally and vertically. Our own methodology here was considerably more advanced. We walked around it and squinted while switching all available light sources on and off. The neighbours thought we were having a Party.

Colours and text remained entirely usable from all off-axis positions. This matters when a producer, director, or colleague appears over your shoulder five minutes before delivery and wants to see what they are about to change.
Built like an EIZO
Without its stand, the monitor weighs 7.7 kg. With the stand, it is 10.6 kg, and with the hood attached it reaches 11.3 kg. The chassis itself measures 712.7 x 420.5 x 69.3 mm without the stand, while the standard VESA pattern is 100 x 100 mm. Height adjustment covers 141.8 mm, swivel is 344 degrees, and tilt ranges from 5 degrees forward to 35 degrees backward. So yes, it is substantial. EIZO does not appear particularly interested in making professional monitors feel hollow.

Our monitor arm held the screen without difficulty. More importantly, there is enough space around the VESA mounting area for a slightly larger mounting plate. This should be such a boring observation that it never appears in a review. Unfortunately, we have previously encountered VESA-“compatible” monitors whose surrounding chassis required us to file down part of a VESA-compatible arm. The CS3200X did not require tools normally associated with metalwork. Sometimes good engineering consists of not creating extra stupid little problems.
USB-C, HDMI, DisplayPort and KVM
The connection set is smaller than on the CG3100X, but not by enough to inconvenience most editing desks. Video inputs include USB-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode, DisplayPort, and HDMI. All three support HDCP, and HDMI supports Deep Colour.

USB-C also carries USB data and up to 70 W Power Delivery. The monitor provides two upstream USB connections, USB-C and USB-B, plus four downstream USB-A ports. Two run at 5 Gbps and two are USB 2.0. It also has an integrated KVM switch. That makes the monitor useful for the increasingly normal workstation-plus-laptop arrangement. Keyboard, mouse and other peripherals can stay attached to the display while the active computer changes. One USB-C cable can therefore provide the display signal, USB connection and up to 70 W of charging to a notebook. Seventy watts is plenty for many laptops.
Compared with the CG3100X, you lose some luxuries. The CG3100X has 94 W USB-C charging, Ethernet and additional high-end video features. For the target audience of the CS3200X, USB-C, HDMI, DisplayPort, four USB ports and KVM are already a fairly complete desk.
The menu understands its job.

The on-screen controls are, as always at EIZO, reassuringly sober. Available settings include colour mode, brightness, white point, gamma, colour adjustment, PQ options, input colour format, YUV colour matrix, input range, scaling, DUE priority and signal controls. Custom keys can be assigned to frequently used functions. There are enough options that a terrible menu system could make this painful. It doesn’t.
The exterior follows the same philosophy. The CS3200X uses a three-sided frameless design, with no decorative RGB strips, enormous fins, or shapes implying the product was raised by a stealth fighter. It is a professional black rectangle. This remains one of our preferred industrial design movements.
Proper Packaging
We have complained about monitor packaging for years. Large display boxes traditionally contained enormous polystyrene blocks, layers of plastic and enough separate bags to suggest the cables were travelling internationally under witness protection. The CS3200X is much better. The moulded material is made from cardboard, and the cables are wrapped in paper instead of plastic bags; the little plastic to protect the screen from moisture during shipping is recycled. It still arrives in a large box, because nobody has yet discovered how to fold a 31.5-inch IPS panel into hand luggage. But unnecessary plastic is completely absent. Excellent!
Who is it for?
The CS3200X is for people whose work depends on colour but who are not necessarily the last person signing the master. Editors are an obvious fit. So are compositors, motion designers, VFX artists, photographers, retouchers, illustrators, designers and people working between video and print.

And if your desk is 55 cm deep and you normally work with your nose positioned somewhere around the J and K keys, measure first. For most other colour-conscious production work, it occupies a rather attractive middle ground.
Verdict
The interesting thing about the CS3200X is not that it is nearly as good as a considerably more expensive EIZO. It isn’t the same monitor. The CG3100X has a different panel format, greater brightness, more reference-oriented functions, an integrated calibration sensor and more connectivity. Those differences exist because the products have different jobs.
What surprised us is how little of the everyday EIZO experience disappears when moving down to the CS3200X. You still get the excellent uniformity. You still get sensible menus. You still get hardware calibration. You still get a Delta below 2. You still get serious colour-space support. You still get a proper KVM and one-cable USB-C operation. You even get the magnetic hood now.
After two weeks, the CS3200X feels less like a compromised version of an expensive professional monitor and more like the sensible monitor for everyone in the production chain who does not need the expensive professional monitor. The CG3100X removed most excuses for colour-critical work in the Sub-20.000€ Monitor Class. The CS3200X removes another one. You can no longer say the EIZO was too expensive.
