For those who don’t know the tool: Animo is Ehsan Bayat’s free animation toolkit for Autodesk Maya, collecting everyday keyframe, posing, space-switching, arc-tracking, playblast and animation-transfer utilities inside Maya rather than sending artists hunting through another folder of mystery scripts.
Five hundred buttons, one home
Animo puts more than 500 Maya animation utilities behind one searchable Tools Editor, which is useful if your current workflow involves remembering which shelf, script folder or decade a particular tool came from. Hotkeys, shelf buttons and favourites keep the useful ones close; the collection spans animation sliders, pose mirroring, key nudging, arc tracking, repathing, baking, space switching and multi-camera playblasting. Maya still has plenty of places to hide things. Animo is trying to remove a few of them.
The update also brings reference media directly into Maya. Ehsan Bayat says videos can be converted to image sequences, with GIF and image references supported too. Six new animation sliders cover operations such as Blend to Ease, Blend to Mirror, Smooth/Harsh and Simplify/Bake. Fewer trips outside Maya, slightly fewer opportunities to discover that reference.mov is somehow on another drive.
Beta means beta
Animo remains explicitly labelled beta. The current download page already lists version 10.4.8, with follow-up fixes for the Graph Editor toolbar, Multi View Playblaster and other tools. Ref Dropper support has also been extended to Mac and Linux.
The toolkit is offered at $0+, with users able to name a price. The creator permits commercial and non-commercial project use, but does not permit repackaging, redistribution or resale of the tool itself.
Studios should test Animo on representative rigs, scenes and Maya configurations before dropping 500 new buttons into an active production pipeline.
