From March, discreet will be delivering the latest version of its broadcast editing software edit.
In addition to the tried and tested functions of edit v5, there is now a wealth of workflow optimisations and improved data exchange between edit workstations and the smoke and fire solutions, also from discreet.
in addition to the familiar horizontal editing, edit 6 also supports vertical editing with an unlimited number of AV tracks in its user interface. The clarity of complex projects is increased by combining entire projects on one AV track (nesting), which also significantly expands the software’s compositing functions.
New are the time-lapse and slow-motion functions, which allow the playback speed of a clip to be continuously changed forwards and backwards in real time. Another new feature is multicam editing, which allows up to nine shots of a scene to be edited in parallel – ideal for the production of multi-angle DVDs and soap or sitcom formats. And they are not the only ones to benefit from the new logging software, which is independent of edit and can be used to record EDLs and batch lists on a notebook on set, for example.
A highlight is the edits capability when video productions are to be made available on the Internet. The necessary encoding into common streaming formats and uploading to the web server is carried out directly from the editing project in the background.
