Diamond Cut Millennium and Diamond Cut Live were real-time audio-restoration applications for PCs running Windows 95, 98, ME, NT or 2000. The software required only a standard computer and a digital or analogue audio card.
The applications were intended for users who needed to process large quantities of material quickly. Real-time operation shortened the restoration workflow for archived recordings.
Users could hear the effect of different filters immediately, without first creating a new audio file. Filter parameters could likewise be adjusted and monitored in real time.
A revised MP3 decoder
Version 4.80 substantially revised the MP3 decoder already included in Diamond Cut Millennium. MP3 files could be imported for further processing. The decoder read files created with Fraunhofer, Blade, Lame and other encoders, whether or not they carried ID3 tags and whether they used constant or variable bit rates.
Faster peaks and persistent markers
The update also improved the speed of creating peak files. These files contained waveform envelopes and were generated automatically when audio was recorded or imported, then stored on the hard drive.
While listening to a wave file, users could press the M key to place markers anywhere on its waveform for later processing. The markers could be saved together with the audio file.
Registered Diamond Cut Millennium users were offered the update as a free download. A patch for existing installations was scheduled to become available on 19 September 2001.
