Munich, 4 June 2002. Media 100 announced early customer installations of its 844/X content-design system in advertising, television production, corporate training and entertainment promotion. Shipping to end users had begun at the end of April.
President and CEO John Molinari said editors and graphics professionals had adopted the system across commercial television, broadcast and corporate production. Media 100 positioned 844/X as a new category combining creative design with real-time technical performance.
Drive Thru Productions
Minneapolis content designer Bob George planned a client suite around 844/X for commercials and short industrial projects. He said real-time 10-bit processing allowed layered graphics, editing, compositing and live-action effects to be revised while clients watched, without waiting for renders.
Mississippi State University
Media producers Kevin Hudson and Donnie McCarter selected 844/X for educational and workforce-development video. They cited faster turnaround, more flexible workflow and the ability to assemble multilayer content within one application.
Cheerful Scout
The London post-production company used 844/X for visual effects and business communications. Senior Editor Guy Davis expected it to accelerate layer-heavy DVD menu work combining original footage with After Effects, Combustion, Cinema 4D and 3ds Max.
The Workstation
Amsterdam production house The Workstation used the system for bumpers, title sequences, promos and prospective commercial work. Managing Director John Twigt said its speed, image quality and After Effects integration made a larger move into visual effects economically viable.
Awards, price and availability
The system received Video Systems’ Pick Hit, the Vidy Award and TV Technology’s Star 2002 award. A base configuration with a dual-processor 1.7 GHz Compaq W8000, Matrox G550, Wacom 6×8 tablet and 360 GB disk array cost €78,995 and was sold through authorised resellers.
Current product information is available from Media 100. The installations demonstrate an early integrated VFX and video-editing workflow.
