Curious Labs planned a German-language edition of Poser 5 for mid-February 2003. German-speaking 3D artists could use the new Face, Material and Hair rooms, the FireFly renderer and other features through a revised interface.
The German edition already included Service Release 2.1 and added atmospheric rendering. Curious Labs had also removed the copy protection previously shipped with Poser 5. Users of English editions earlier than 5.0.2.268 were advised to install Service Release 2.1; the installed version number was available under Help → About Poser 5.
New features included:
- new figures with detailed clothing;
- a Material room with shader trees;
- a Hair room for natural-looking hair;
- a Face room with the MorphPutty tool for interactive facial changes;
- facial photo mapping;
- collision detection for clothing, body parts and hair;
- dynamic clothing simulation;
- hierarchical libraries;
- the Content Paradise asset portal; and
- the FireFly renderer.
Poser 5 German for Windows was due in mid-February 2003 at approximately €509. It was to be sold through software retailers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and through the Curious Labs online store. Upgrades from earlier German editions were available, while owners of the English edition could exchange it through their reseller with proof of purchase and the complete package; Egisys charged a €25 handling fee.
